Back to school anxiety

Written by: Angelica Guadalupe, Intern

Summer is coming to an end and the fall may spark anxiety for some people especially you, mamas. Whether it be going back to work for you or school for your children  - it’s tough to get back into the swing of things!

Whatever the case may be, know that your nerves are normal and many other parents are feeling the exact same way right now.

Fall Survival List:

  • Prepare easy breakfasts for you and your kids. I like to pour eggs into muffin tins with peppers and spinach and cook them on a Sunday, so they’re easily accessible throughout the week (all you have to do is add a starchy carb like toast!) Please remember that cereal is 100% a valid option as well!!

  • The same thing goes for lunch. Try to prep the night before, so you’re not scrambling in the morning. Fill up everyone's lunch boxes, including yours with quick and easy foods. (PS don’t forget water, so everyone’s hydrated!)

  • Don’t forget, if your children get school lunch you’re not a failure or a bad mom. Sometimes convenience is key for both you and your child.

  • Find some time to do a closet-clean-out and get rid of clothes that no longer serve you or no longer serve your children. Donate, give to the less fortunate, or even sell them.

  • Have some kind of an agenda, like a notebook or even your notes app on your phone. Writing will help you stay organized and feel more in control.

  • Remember to take mental health/vacation days. The laundry, dishes in the sink, etc. can get done another time! It’s okay to ask for help!

  • Talk to other moms about any nerves that you may have and seek their solutions when they’ve felt the same way. Even mom facebook groups in your town can be helpful!

There are always a few things you can do to ease your nerves, but you can’t completely get rid of them - that’s just not realistic! By taking these suggestions you may relieve some excess anxiety, so it doesn’t have to be incredibly challenging walking into the fall. Remember, it’s ok to ask for help when you need it.
