Mama, eating less is not the answer.
Eating less is not the answer.
You heard me mama, eating less does not make you thinner or equate to happiness. It actually leads to an unhealthy relationship with food and your body, slows down your metabolism and it is not a healthy example for your daughter.
There are so many people on the internet who shame people by telling them to eat less, especially now during quarantine. For example, there are posts like:
“If you want to look like me, then eat this way (aka less).”
“You should probably be eating less since you’re in quarantine.”
“Eat less because you're probably eat more than you think.
Ok, let’s stop there. These statements are SO wrong.
Let’s break it down.
One, EVERY BODY IS DIFFERENT. What works for one person won’t necessarily work for you. Even if we all ate the EXACT same way, our bodies would still look different. Every genetic blueprint is different! Hello, intuitive eating and being able to listen to your body and honor its needs!
Two, you do NOT need to eat less because you are in quarantine! If I hear one more person tell a mom to eat less I’m going to lose it! It doesn’t matter if you are moving less or more, you still need to eat consistently! It’s okay if it is more than usual and if it’s more foods you find comforting, right now is about overall wellness and taking care of yourself!
Three, to the person who tells mamas to eat less because “you are probably eating more than you think”… are you in their body? We each have very different bodies with our own unique needs and sometimes we need to eat more in a day, less another, it all depends on how our body is feeling and what it needs! Don’t just assume someone is eating too much based on their body size or general habits during quarantine. That is not fair!
Look, I hate seeing posts that shame people or make people feel like they are doing something wrong.
Right now is about taking care of you, your wellbeing and learning how to heal your relationship with food and your body to help you and protect your daughter.
Mama, this is my reminder that your only focus right now can be on taking care of yourself and your kids. You don’t need another diet or someone yelling in your ears as to how you need to eat less. You need support, a healthy mindset and a healthy relationship with food.
