Fitness trackers and listening to your body

Written by: Angelica Guadalupe, Intern

Do you really need to use your Apple Watch or calorie tracking app when you’re on vacation, at an event, or for every hike you take?

No! It’s ok to just live in the moment and do what your body wants you to do for that day!

Personally, I used to put my Apple Watch on every day and would do anything to make sure all my “goals” were completed. I noticed I was becoming too obsessed with it daily, and wound up taking it off for a whole year!! Yes, A WHOLE YEAR.

I waited until I felt comfortable in myself, my body, and my choices and now I feel much better using my Apple Watch with ease! You can also learn to let these things go and listen to your body.

You may be thinking, “I don’t know where to start when it comes to listening to my body...” and although it sounds complicated now, it is possible.

When your body is feeling run down and tired, you feel it!! You may struggle to keep your eyes open or feel like you need a nap. Honoring this feeling IS listening to your body!
On the other hand, if you’re feeling energetic and maybe even antsy you may have some bottled up energy that needs to be released! This is your body telling you to move.

Now it’s not always that cut and dry, but it’s a good start. Once you begin trying to listen to your body, you won’t feel the need to run to your Apple Watch or calorie tracking app on a daily basis!

I’ve mentioned before that your Apple Watch can be a good tool for some, but if you don’t feel like completing your exercise ring today - you don’t have to!! That’s the beauty of listening to your body.
